1. Choose the Right Herbs

Select herbs that match your cooking style and growing conditions. Popular beginner-friendly choices include basil, parsley, cilantro, mint, chives, rosemary, oregano, and thyme.

Keep in mind that some herbs grow more aggressively than others. Mint, for example, spreads quickly and is best planted in its own container to keep it from taking over nearby plants.
